If you are quite happy with the size of your breast but wish they were in a higher position, if your nipples and areolas point downward or if your breast is just lacking firmness, the breast lifting surgery might be what you are looking for. The most common procedure is done through three incisions so the surgeon can remove excess skin tissue, shape the remaining tissue, reduce the areola, and move the nipple to a higher position. As the nipples and areolas remain attached to the underlying breast tissue, the ability to breast-feed and the sensation is usually preserved. After a few months, the incision lines will be reduced to obscurity. The whole procedure usually takes 2 to 3 hours and usually general anesthetics used. Your stay in the hospital will be short, perhaps one night. Most of the discomfort can be controlled with oral medication and antibiotics may also be prescribed. You should be able to get out of the bed for short periods of time on the very day of the surgery but not until 5 to 10 days, the bruising and swelling will begin to fade. You should arrange for help and care after the surgery. Normal physical activities may be resume only after several weeks but within the first week you will be able to move around more comfortably and resume light activity. You will continue to wear a surgical bra for some time. You must also avoid sun exposure on your breast and take special care of the incision lines.
